Shab-e-Barat (Night of Forgiveness) is a spiritually significant night in Islam, observed on the 15th of Sha’ban. Muslims engage in worship, prayer, and supplication, seeking Allah’s mercy and forgiveness.
Virtues (Fazail) of Shab-e-Barat
1. Night of Forgiveness
- Allah descends to the lowest heaven and grants forgiveness to sincere believers.
- Hadith: “Allah looks at His creation on the 15th night of Sha’ban and forgives all except the idolater and the one who holds hatred.” (Ibn Hibban Hadith 771)
2. Night of Decree
- Some scholars believe destinies for the coming year (provisions, life, death) are recorded on this night.
3. Night of Mercy and Blessings
- Worship performed this night carries multiplied rewards.
- Prayers and duas are more likely to be accepted.
4. Opportunity for Intercession
- The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “When the night of mid-Sha’ban comes, spend it in prayer and fast its day.” (Ibn Majah)
Recommended Night Prayers (Nawafil)

- Method: Pray in pairs of 2 rak’ahs each.
- Intention (Niyyah): “I intend to pray 2 rak’ah nafl for the sake of Allah.”

2. Recitation of Surah Yasin
